License Management

Each LogicalDOC installation has it's own license that contains the list of available features and various operating parameters like the maximum number of users and documents.

Your license is identified by a unique User Number also known as Activation Code or License Number.

In order to check the details of your license and take actions on it, you can enter LogicalDOC with the admin account and then go to Administration > System > License

If you cannot enter LogicalDOC, access the license page at the following URL: http://your_server_ip:your_server_port/license where your_server_ip is the address of the machine where LogicalDOC is installed in and your_server_port is the working port as defined during the installation(by default it is the 8080).

License Page

License page protection

In order to protect your privacy, the license page is protected by security checks. To be able to enter this page you will be required to put credentials, so use admin as username and for the password use the same password of the admin user as you configured in the LogicalDOC's security.

Proxy

The functions described in this section require a stable Internet connection. If direct Internet connection is not available, you can configure LogicalDOC to use a proxy

Registration data

Each time you activate the license, your registration data will be sent to identify you, so it is important to make sure they are correct and current. You control your registration data by pressing on the button Show registration data.

License Activation

The “License Activation” is the process of successfully installing in your device a valid license file for your copy of the LogicalDOC application.

When you install LogicalDOC, you are required to input your User Number and in general the activation process is carried on by the installer itself.

After that, in the future you may be required to activate again for a variety of reasons like the followings:

  • the installer was unable to activate your license during the installation
  • you have to install a different license(e.g. you installed a trial, and now you want to activate the regular license)
  • you have to update the license to unlock aspects you purchased

Go to the Activation Procedure

Limited number of Activations

Each User Number can be activated up to 3 times, further activations can be granted, but you have to ask the support service explaining your reasons.

License Unbind

The "License Unbind" is the procedure to detach the license from the current hardware so it can be activated in another computer.

Typically, you unbind a license when you want to migrate your installation to a new server.

Different license types

LogicalDOC licenses are available in two different flavors: As Hardware Bound License and as Floating License.

The feature set of both licenses is identical. However, the Hardware Bound License is tied to the hardware, while the Floating License is hardware independent but require constant and stable Internet connection.

Hardware Bound License

A Hardware Bound License is tied to the hardware of the server where you installed LogicalDOC in.

Licenses of this type are associated with a specific device upon activation and do not work on other computers.

In case you change your hardware, or you plan to replace your server, you have to unbind the license and activate it again on the new machine.

To check if you are using a license bound to a specific hardware, open the license page and check if the System ID parameter is not empty.

Bound License

License Unbind

The License Unbind is the procedure to detach the license from the current hardware so it can be activated in another computer.

From the license page, click the button Unbind and wait for the completion of the procedure. At the end, your license has been unbound, and you can activate it again on another device.

License invalidated after Unbind

After the unbind, the license gets invalid in the current computer and LogicalDOC will stop to work. Of course, you can activate the same license code again in the same computer in the respect of the maximum activations number you are granted.

Floating License

A Floating License is hardware independent and is the ideal choice if you plan to swap your LogicalDOC hardware quite frequently or if you install in a virtualized or containerized environment where you cannot control the hardware.

Floating licenses require a constant Internet connection to the remote LogicalDOC License Manager. If your installation does not have a stable Internet connection, you can still use floating licenses by configuring a proxy server to provide reliable connection.
However, if you have neither a stable Internet connection nor a working proxy, floating licenses cannot be used.

It is not admitted to have the same floating license installed in more than one installation at a time.

To check if you are using a floating, open the license page and check the flag Floating.

Floating License

License Activation

After the purchase of your commercial edition, you will receive a User Number this is your identification ID you must provide everytime you need support. This user number is also your activation code you must use to activate the license.
